IRS Extends Tax-Filing Deadline for States Affected by Winter Storms

With the traditional tax deadlines coming up, the IRS has decided to postpone the tax filing and payment deadlines for Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana to June 15 in response to the severe winter storms those states experienced in February. The new deadline will apply to both businesses and individuals. The IRS will automatically identify taxpayers located in the covered disaster areas.

Some of the states have also chosen to conform to the federal tax deadline. Oklahoma will extend the tax payment due date to June 15 and Texas will extend the franchise tax due date to June 15. Other states may opt to conform to the federal deadline in the near future.

We will continue to update our list of states that qualify for tax relief due to the severe winter storms. If you have any questions regarding the tax deadlines, please contact your HORNE tax advisor.
